The first of our special episodes features an interview with Michael Caley, a pioneering football analyst who fast becoming the go-to guy for league projections, expected goals, and all around statistical observation in football. Michael is currently the Analytics Editor of Howler Magazine, he writes for ESPN FC, the Washington Post, World Soccer Talk and SB Nation Soccer.
In the course of the interview, Jon asks Michael about his background in football analytics and the importance of his American context to his development. They then move on to talk about how you might go about analysing the game-play in football using both on-ball metrics such as expected goals but also the off-ball stats that are currently in the development phase.
