Summer Break – Leicester City

It has become something of a received wisdom within the present day that the mainstream media exist as the pinnacle of what is possible in sports journalism. Whilst it is not in our interest to reject this assumption, here at A Team of John O’Sheas we believe that some of the most perceptive insight regarding the top teams in the country comes from the fans themselves.

In the course of this podcast series, we will be bringing together some of the most influential fans from across the Premier League to give you the low-down on the teams that they watch week in, week out. We’ll look back over the season just gone, try to get a handle on the transfer activity that rumbles on through the summer month, and look forwards to the next season which, as always, seems to creep up on us with ever increasing speed.

In this episode, we find ourselves in the midlands, visiting the home of one of the most remarkable clubs in Premier League history. In 2016, Leicester City and their coach Claudio Ranieri stunned the football world by winning the Premier League title in a season immediately following a relegation battle. If this was not unlikely enough already, considering the Premier League against the background of its 25 year history, it was only made more impressive that this happened at a point where the globalisation of football had made the game a rich person’s plaything. Of course, the only way was down for Leicester, although few perhaps saw the downward spiral coming quite so quickly as it did: not least Claudio Ranieri, who was sacked midway through his second season. With Craig Shakespeare now at the helm, it’s difficult to know what the long term strategy of the club now is. Bouyed by the financial riches that have been showered on league champions, will they cement their place in the top half of the table? Or is there still an air of uncertainty surrounding the Foxes?

Joining us on the show today are two of the biggest names in Leicester City podcasting – Pete Selby and Rob Hayes, the co-hosts of For Fox Sake podcast and Match Day AD commentators at the King Power Stadium. For Fox Sake comes to you from Alan March Sport Ltd and is unscripted and unprepared as Pete and Rob take an alternative look at Leicester City with help from their loyal listeners.
